So, the parable of the talents is a point beyond the beginning. Let's back up a few steps.

Jesus was born.

The book of Matthew begins with a genealogy of Christ. Simple enough, right?

A way to Christianity begins with believing that Christ was born. You could say that requires faith.

A seed is planted.

Christianity itself is believing that same Christ was crucified, a blood sacrifice for all human sin, and resurrected, gaining power over sin and death.

Being a Christian is taking that seed of faith, in Christ, and causing it to bear good fruit, in life.

What is fruit? I'm not talking about peaches and pears. Everything a person thinks, says, or does, is their fruit.

The reward promised to those who prove their faith in Christ, and bear good fruit with their life, is eternal life.

The alternative is an eternity in fire, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

At the core of all good fruit is love.
